Adams Blog 6

Hello again everybody,

Sorry it’s taken me so long to write my blog, I really didn’t know what to say. I was trying so hard in qualifying that the tiniest of errors caught me out. I was absolutely flying through the first and second sectors fully committed trying to get the WIX Racing Mercedes A Class as far up the grid as I could when the wheels started spinning on the damp track, all of a sudden she found some grip and chucked me straight into a barrier at Druids.

Because my error/crash had caused the qualifying session to be stopped (a red flag) the rules dictate that when it restarts I am not allowed to take any further part. I had to sit in the garage and watch as fifteen cars went passed me on the rapidly drying surface. 25th on the grid my worst qualifying session since, well I can’t remember when.

With 15 overtakes I was awarded the most points in the Jack Sears trophy, the trophy is presented to the driver that overtakes the most cars on race day, I haven’t really had the opportunity to take many points as we have thankfully been near to the front at all the championships other rounds, it was little consolation to be honest.

There is a funny dynamic between me, my engineer and the team’s mechanics. Touch wood, the WIX Racing A Class Mercedes has performed faultlessly this year and that’s solely down to the dedication and hard work of the team. I know that they feel terrible on the rare occasion that I have a mechanical problem. I was proper gutted to have crashed out, we have been together for so long I couldn’t help but feel I had let them down, the entire team are so supportive with the exception of Norman Burgess who called me loads of things that I am unable to repeat!! Then of course there are all the teams Sponsors and the VIP Guests that attend.

The international circuit was used for the first time at Oulton and none of the drivers were really happy with it, it took out two really good overtaking opportunities. I was able to overtake the slower cars but at the front of the pack were only tenths of a second separate the drivers it unfortunately turned into a bit of a procession. I was determined to take something from the day, unfortunately when I did get into a points scoring position I was hit from behind and had to retire on the last lap of the second race.

We are all really looking forward to round 5 of the championship at Croft, it’s important that I enjoy a consistent point scoring 3 races and that I am in the top ten entering the summer break. We can then build on this in the second half of the racing season.

Away from the track, I have been training hard and last weekend I went down to London to my see old friends from university, it was my first weekend off for ages and I had a brilliant laugh. My younger brother Sam has gone travelling, I am hoping to catch up with him in Spain for a week at the end of July. It’s all racing or preparing to race with me and everything else takes a backseat compared to that.

Hope to meet up with you all soon.

Thank you

Adam
