Ups & downs for Morgan on the banks of the Rockingham Motorspeedway

WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan enjoyed and endured a weekend of massive highs and lows during round 8 of the British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend.

On Saturday Adam enjoyed his best qualifying session so far in the WIX Filters Mercedes A Class. Adam was able, for the first time this year, to improve his position during his second crack within the timed session. “The car is mega, Paul Ridgway and the WIX Racing mechanics are amazing, the car was just on rails” enthused Adam. “I have never really been able to qualify that well around here but the team provided me with the perfect set up. It really was down to me to do the lads justice, my lap times were consistent and we are over the moon with 6th, Brilliant”

Starting from the 3rd row Adam made a fantastic start and slotted the WIX Racing Mercedes into 5th place while chaos ensued around him. Adam kept his cool as always and another immaculate drive saw him bring the car home in perfect condition to secure 5th place, his 11th consecutive top ten finish. Adam Commented “This car is spot on, what a job the team have done, we are getting closer and closer to where we need to be, what the mechanics have achieved in our first year with the Mercedes is mind blowing and I can’t thank them enough”

In race two Adam again made a solid start but whilst jostling for position an object thrown up from another car pierced the cars cooling system and for the first time this year Adam was forced to retire from a race. Once the car was returned to the garage it became apparent that the engine had been damaged beyond repair and a new one would have to be fitted. “I am gutted” said Adam “we were on for a proper result in that one, the first couple of laps were difficult trying to find my rhythm but the WIX Racing Mercedes had good pace. I am not classing this as a mechanical breakdown; it was an unavoidable racing incident’.

After an epic team effort, the WIX Racing garage team managed to change engines in the 2 hour gap between races. The commitment, dedication and effort by every single team member saw Adam roll out onto the grid to take his position, with only seconds to spare to a tremendous round of applause from the grandstand. Adam made a phenomenal start and stole 5 places from the start and a further 2 places on the first lap. Unfortunately, a technical problem with the cars turbo boost saw Adam retire from the race “I will never get sick of telling people about how good the WIX Racing team are, they’re the best in the business” Adam continued “to fit a new engine and get the car onto the grid is an achievement in itself, of course it’s a major disappointment not to finish in two of today’s three races but what the lads achieved today was remarkable”

Norman Burgess Commercial and Marketing Manager “What a brilliant weekend for the entire WIX Racing team. OK things might not have gone our way on track but that was completely out of our hands, we are a proper team. Paul Ridgway and his team were as always absolutely perfect, the camaraderie between them is poetry in motion” Norman continued “Rockingham is the home round of the teams title sponsor WIX Filtration and they brought loads of guests and a few personal friends including UFC Flyweight Brad “one punch” Pickett, Paul Bird owner of the Rapid Solicitors Motogp/British Superbike team and ex World Touring Car Champion and current factory Lada driver Rob Huff were also guests. Over 100 people enjoyed a 3 course lunch in the hospitality suite today and it was absolutely seamless. Again, every member of the team works tirelessly to ensure that every single VIP receives a ‘money can’t buy experience’. Its inspiring to stand back and watch just how hard everybody works behind the scenes in their own role to deliver the perfect weekend both on and off the track”
